  1. Cucusoft Video to DVD Creator is a good choice. It converts popular video formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, DV, VOB to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable or home DVD player. Any video to to VCD/DVD/SVCD is even faster than real-time.

Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of the DVD creator give you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product:

Also, you can search some other software:

  2. Hello...

well.. Fovere talks about the good software, but doesn't solve the main problem -

using dozzle with miniDV camera is no good. Dozzle was made for analog camcorders/VCR players such as old VHS or Hi8 camcorders. The quality from those sources with dazzle would be OK... But it totally degrades miniDV quality.

So, before you try any of the softwares Fovere suggested, you need to transfer the video from your camcorder (from the miniDV tape) via Firewire port. ANY other way (such as Dazzle) will degrade the quality drastically (as you already know).

So, if your cojputer does not have Firewire aka iLink aka miniDV port aka IEEE 1394 (all different names for the same think, manufacturers like to confuse us), you have to buy the card AND cable... if your comp has the port, just buy the cable.  (Go on ebay - the cheapest way, around $10 for combo card + cable)

Then connect the camcorder, turn into play mode (do not press play button, just turn it on) and windows recognize it (no drivers needed, that is part of both Windows XP and Vista) .

You can use any video capturing software - some you might receive with your firewire card (I've got Ulead Video Studio with it and it works great), if not, Windows Movie Maker as free part of every Windows will do the job as well.

Open that software, navigate to "Capture", choose your cam from pull down menu as video source and click Capture. The software will automatically rewind tape, play it and capture it.

It is real time capture = one hour tape will take one hour to capture.

Then you will get huge (13GB) AVI file in extreme high quality.

Now comes Fovere's help - use that or any other software (again, even Windows movie maker will do, but not with all the fanciness as better softwares) and create high quality DVD

    have fun...

    Johnny
