A blog is a weblog.  Basically same as a website but easy to update.  Most people use this as a online diary or sorts.

An example of a blog is my blog:

Notice that the articles is in a sequence.  Unlike a normal website, a blog is meant to be regularly updated.  A traditional website takes time and difficulty to update.

Some services like MySpace and Friendster offer blogs but these blogs are co-branded into their products.  If you don't mind using these blogs then go ahead, they are the same.  However, if you want to get your own blog without the annoying co-branding, go to http://www.wordpress.com or http://www.blogspot.com as they are 2 of the biggest blogsite providers around.
