I've spent alot of time in Costa Rica and I'll tell you straight up.  If you can speak Spanish fluently and English as well you can find a job paying you cash under the table.  Granted the Costa Ricans don't make much money because it is a 3rd world country, you might make 2-4 dollars an hour depending on the deal you work out.  Remember unless you are a citizen your visa only lasts for 90 days and you have to leave the country for 72 hours before you can return, but all you have to really do is go to Panama or Nicaragua for 3 days and then come back.   Good luck.

Don't think so you will need a work visa and last time I check they weren't giving any

Nope, its generally not legal for Americans to work in Costa Rica.
