  1. Hi, if you go out to the University (western road), there is a whole street of B&B's there.  Most won't be available to book online, but if you check out www.goldenpages.ie and search for B&B's in Cork, you'll get plenty of phone numbers.  The university is only 10 mins walk from the city centre, but nice and quiet most of the time.  I lived in Cork for years, and really loved it; there are some great pubs and restaurants, try The Lobby bar near City Hall or The Spailpin Fanach near the Beamish Brewery for some excellent trad music sessions nearly every night.  Have a great time in the real capital!

  2. I'd stay in Dublin if I were you.

  3. I ended up going to the information centre for accommodation (as I booked on arrival) and I had a car.  I wasn't too far out and it is one of the more expensive places I found.  My B&B was on the hill (V steep drive) and had nice views (it was an old place).

I found that going to cobh (spelling???...oh well but said cove) was lovely.  This was the last place the titanic was before leaving to sail.  It has lovely bright coloured buildings and a cathedral on a steep hill overlooking the coast.

It was one of the prettier places I saw.  I did not have a great deal of time I admit so apart from that I don't remeber that much more arout Cork.
