  1. The first step is always to get a homestudy.  http://home-study.adoption.com/

Once they've determined that your home is a good environment for children, you will be matched with an expectant woman planning to give her baby up for adoption.  You can help the process along by making a profile on parentprofiles.com.  Whatever agency or attorney you use will probably also have a matching service.

Choose who you work with carefully.  When the social worker comes to do the homestudy, ask him or her who they think is reputable in your area.  Also ask around if you have any friends or family who've adopted.

    Wishing your family the best!

  2. Talk to a doctor, lawyer, minister or priest for a private adoption. That is how we got our son 22 years ago.

We lost six babies trying to have children and I almost died on the sixth try. So my doctor suggested private adoption, although we have a 33 year old from an agency.

The private adoption was more costly but well worth the fewer hassles.

  3. It's very possible to adopt a newborn through private domestic adoption (if you're in the US), the time frame is unpredictable though, after your certified to adopt it could take a few days - over 2 years to be selected by a birthmother, the fees usually ranges from $20,000-$40,000. Your first step would be to contact several domestic agencies and information.

You could also try to locate a birthmother on your own, (although it can take a lot of time and effort) and then go through an adoption attourney.

Or you could adopt internationally. There are many babies available, but they are usually 6 months +. We've adopted twice through Korea, and both our boys were around 6 months when they arrived home.

The fees are usually $15,000- $30,000, and the time depends on the agency and country (usually 6 months- 2 years total) The could thing is once your matched with a child their is very little risk of the adoption "falling through", and once the child is home there's no change of anyone "changing there mind". The first step would  be to decide on a country program and/ or contact several agencies.

    Good luck.

  4. I am sorry to hear about your failed IVF. We have had 2 failed atempts too.

What country are you from? Do a search on the internet to see where the nearest agencies are to where you live

Be prepared that there will probably be a long waiting list, especially for a new baby as new babies are in most demand.

    Good luck!

  5. The first step is to get a home study done. Contact a local adoption agency and they will be able to guide you to social workers. If you are looking at international adoptions, let the agency know - there are some licensing rules for social workers who help people adopt internationally.

The homestudy should take a few weeks - they will want to get your background, see your basic financials and check you for criminal background.

International adoptions take somewhat shorter time, but you will not get a newborn. Local adoptions will give you a chance at a newborn, but the demand is so high that you might end up waiting years for the baby. Again talk to the adoption agency and they will be able to guide you through this decision as well - about the timeframe, cost, age of the child, how you can deal with different types of adoptions etc. Ask them about their placement stats, then make the decision. But, first go to a good adoption agency in your city.

    Good luck!
