I am not a vietnamese but my wife is.Recently my wife suggested we should invest on a pierce of land in Ho Chi Minh city. The amount was around 15 to 20k american dollar.I understand that property is real hot over there due to growing economy over there but would like to know roughly how is the return like and how long does it takes?Would appreciate to hear from someone who have invested or have experience in investing in land or house in Ho chi minh city.Thanks.

  1. For what I heard, you have to be Vietnamese citizen to own land in Vietnam. I could be wrong.

  2. Hi

With 15 to 20k American dollards, you could get 2 small pieces of land. The size of each is 5x20 sqm.

  3. There are a lot of scamers out there. Even  family members and government officials are included.  Laws are not alway transparency.  So invest wisely, some where else.

  4. You cannot own land in Vietnam, if you are a foreigner but your wife could, as she's VN. So it would have to be her buying it. However, there is so much corruption there, you need to be careful who you deal with but I'm sure your wife knows that.

  5. I agree with smiler. He knows what he is talking about.

  6. I do not have experiance of HCMC but have plenty in the costal resort of Nha Trang, that is not to say i dont know what is going in HCMC as i read the papers and try to follow the trends. You are corect in saying its booming over here, prices are rising quite dramaticaly.

What i can tell you at 15 to 20k its either one very small peice of land or its way out of the centre.Prices are very simmaler beetween Nt and HCMC and good residential land is around 1000usd per sqare meter.

My advice to you is trust no one and unless you live here and no exactly what is going on do not risk your money, you will like many others lose it.

Sorry to sound so negative but i know the score,If you need any more advise i will be happy to help.

  7. You have to be Vietnamese citizen or have documentation to prove that you are living and working in VN more than 6 months/year (rule may change).

With that money, it is hard for you to buy the land in Saigon or development area now.  You can buy some land in urban area in other cities, hopefully in the future, those land will turn into gold for you when government has the projects.

    Good luck
