Hi , I want to go from Mumbai to Rameshwaram, preferably by plane and volvo. Which is the best route?

Should I go via Trivendrum or via Madurai or Via Chennai? Where shoudl I stay If I take a halt at any of these places? Where to stay at Rameshwaram. My 70 year old mother will be with me.

The best way is to fly to Chennai, from there is a express train to Rameswaram that takes about 12 hours. There is also a flight to Madurai from Chennai but this won't save that much time since you'll still have to catch the train or bus to Rameswaram anyways.

Take the train for sure. I was on the train in 1985 (8 yr old) and i still remember it. It goes over a large stretch of sea. Its really awesome.

Take flight to Madurai , from there you can do a day trip to Rameshwaram. ( 172 Kms one way ) . Regular buses and taxis are available easily.

Chennai is 592 kms from Rameshwaram and you have to take overnight train from Chennai
