  1. I would start by making a mural on the wall where you have long pieces of green paper on it....Have the kids tear the paper then paste it to the mural.....make it so it goes higher than their heads so it looks like you are lost in the grass......Then I would hang some big bird from the ceiling....even if you just tape a bird picture up high to make it seem like you are small.

Have a lot of different bug costumes to wear....make some antennae out of pipe cleaners for the kids to wear...as for costumes...or just have some green and red material....then wrap them around the kids so you pretend.

Take out the regular play food...and have lots of lettuce and veggie play food....have some pillows with green covers to make it like moss....or just tape down some green material or paper.....

play cricket sounds on a cd player...sounds like you are with bugs...or other nature cd's.

  2. Hello, my theme for the month of May was also insects. I visited the Family Dollar Store and purchased plastic bugs to hang from the ceiling, along with the coffee liner butterflies the children made during art. We also used honey comb cereal and raisins to simulate a bee hive. You can also visit dltk-teach.com and enchantedlearning.com for other insect projects. Hope this helps.

  3. try the preschool education website. they have tons of ideas

  4. Go on a "Bug Hunt" and have some of the children pretend to be their favorite bug. Have every one take turns. Good luck and I hope this helps.

  5. Maybe a giant garden? We are doing insects and bugs now and that is what I was thinking. You can make some big flowers and have them paint a garden mural for the walls. Lots of insect books are based out of gardens. We are also going to make bug mobiles with different flying insects on them and hang them up from the ceiling.

If you have a tent or a play house it could become a bug house, ie. an ant hill or bee hive. Just wrap it in brown paper or even tell the kids, this is an ant hill.

  6. look at it like "honey I shrunk the kids"  where the grass is huge...and the kids are the insects and bugs...and try to tie in the Miss Spider literature

  7. You could tell your story in ten huge pictures painted with help by the children with sub captions/titles written below.  Placed in numbers (1-2-3....) around the whole school, from the front door onwards.  Children and parents can have fun walking round reading and enjoying the drama unfold
