Its a sony Handycam (mini DV) and it only came with a cord to connect to the television. I was wondering if I HAD to buy the iLink cord. (I'm cheap and i think they're like $40). i have a HP with Vista (dont know if that matters). sooo yeah... THANX!!!

  1. Yes you need an iLink (firewire) cable. You also need to make sure your PC has a firewire port!!

  2. Yes, you need to use firewire.  If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card.  They're cheap (about $20), easy to install and readily available.  There have been problems with Vista and firewire, so make sure the card you get works with it.

  3. Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

Also.... make sure you have a vista compatible driver for your camera, visit the Sony website.
