I lived in New Mexico for 6 Month and went to High school there so my English isn't too bad :D My reasons for joining the Air National Guard are just for citizenship reasons cause I want to become a citizen of the US there are only limited ways of getting citizenship one would be the Green card which I already applied for but as you might know they only issue like 1000 of them to Germany and I might not be

one of the lucky ones. I went to school for 12 years and I'm currently going into 13th grade to get my Abitur (German Diploma). Next year I want to get out of Germany because there is nothing that keeps me here. I would be delighted if someone could help me with my Problem of how to join the USAN.

  1. Why Air Nat Guard, why not just join one of the services.

  2. 1) We enlist foreign nationals all the time so it can be done.

    2) All of New Mexico's Air National Guard is in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area so you'll need to move there.

    3) You will need to be there with a legal status, I would recommend a student visa since Albuquerque has a fine University.

    4) Half our Puerto Ricans can barely speak English so you can get away with bad English but I would try and improve it.

    5) You will need to see a recruiter and take the ASVAB. The test is not hard but it is in English.

Last but not least you will need a high school diploma, a clean criminal history, and to be in good physical health.

P.S. Ignore p**s ants like scott they hate to admit that 60% of all combat troops in Iraq during the invasion WERE National Guard troops. We pick up the slack Active Duty can't hack like hurricane Katrina, assisting the Border Patrol with immigration, and Counter Drug missions.

  3. Talk to a recruiter once you receive your green card.  I'm not sure if there is a waiting period for joining once you get it but you can't join without a green card.  Once you do join you can apply for US citizenship almost right away for free.  If your English isn't very good there is an English school the army can send you to.  I'm not sure if the Air Force offers the same thing but the recruiter will be able to tell you.

  4. Not able to get you direct access with ANG recruiter.

I wish you luck on this.

  5. To be eligible for National Guard, you need to be a permanent resident or US citizen.  So I think you need to first establish permanent residency before you can apply...  I don't think you can come on a tourist visa and get a job like that.

If you really want to come to the US, there are other ways to come here legally with the goal to obtain a green card.  Why not apply to an American university after you write the Abitur?  There are scholarships available for international students at most universities.  As a student you would be on an F-1 visa.  After you graduate, you can extend that visa for one more year while you look for employment in the US.  After you get a job in the US, your employer can sponsor your green card and you would get H-1B visa status.  That can take awhile though -- I know someone who is getting employer sponsored green card...  the process started in 2004 and she is still waiting for her green card...

And who knows?  Maybe you will go to university in the US, fall in love with a nice US citizen, and then get married!  The green card is your Hochzeitsgeschenk from the American government!  And the process of applying for and receiving a green card usually takes less than 12 months when you marry a citizen.

Anyways...  there are many ways to come to the US legally and get a green card.  Just choose the option that is best for you.  Viel Glück!!!  :-)

  6. I have a dual citizenship (german and american) and I want to join the US army. I heard that I will have to give up my german citizenship in order to do that. Germany really screws people over and make everything so d**n complicated.

  7. The air national guard in NM, what a p***y organization to pick to try to gain citizenship.

Tell somebody you want to join the US Army and defend this country when they need people, you got a much better chance than with some ANG bunch of *******.

    EDIT

Sanchito, you of all people should know that the only thing the air force is good for is pushing real men out of planes.

  8. Go to a recruiter, make sure you perfect you're english.
