I want to get a bus to either Los Mochis or Monterrey. Can anyone offer any advice on the best (i.e. optimum mix of cost and comfort!) bus companies to travel with? Also, approximately how much might I expect to pay for those journeys?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

  1. Yeah I would have to agree that Greyhound is going to be the cheapest way to go for sure. I am actually heading to Moneterrey in two days via greyhound. I did want to add a little advice though. First of all be sure to go to the greyhound website and sign up for road rewards. That will automatically give you 10% off of your first purchase. The best way I have found to purchase your ticket for the cheapest price is first off all only buy a ticket to the border inside of Mexico, in your case to Juarez. If you buy your ticket A round trip from LA to Juarez is only $126 with 14 day advance purchase. After your get into Juarez, then you can purchase a ticket with transpies buslines inside the same bus station on in to Monterrey. That ticket is around 350 pesos, $34.  That way your complete trip rounds out to be around $200, but if you buy the ticket last min. and all the way into Monterrey you will be paying close to $340. There are many ways to save with Greyhound, my best advice to you is go to their website and play around with the dates, times, and destination points. Oh and be sure to watch your number of transfers. What ever the number of transfers is on the schedule add one stop that is not included on the schedule for transfer at the border. Greyhound is known for its comfort as far as busses go in the united states, but in Mexico quickly jump onto transpies, the seats are HUGE!!! airconditioned perfectly, and extremly comfortable. Transpies makes Greyhound look like carseats. Good luck on your trip and hope this helped.

  2. The cheapest bus company that goes to Mexico (that I know of) is greyhound. The fares are reasonable, and if you buy two weeks in advance, cheap. ($65.00 from Albuquerque to Bakersfield, as an example.) The bus station isn't on the greatest side of town, but its relatively safe. The only downside is comfort, most bus companys dont really go all out for the comfort, but if you take a whole row to yourself (only two seats) and bring a duffelbag to lean aganst, you'll be fine.
