I like to play with a lot of spin and i'd rather have greater control of the ball than have greater power.

I'm not looking for specific makes and models of tennis rackets but more so what features it shoud have e.g lightweight or heavy frame, large surface area or small, high tension or low tension, type of string etc

Thanks alot

  1. If you care more about control than power, go heavier.  Really, the heavier the frame, the more control it'll give.  It shouldn't be an issue, but make sure it's head-light too.  But all the heavier racquets are head-light anyhow.  I'd say demo some stuff in at or above 11.5 oz.  For maximum control, go as heavy as you can without the racquet becoming cumbersome.

As for frame size, go smaller.  Now, I'm not sure I'd recommend something as small as 90 sq in.  Id say, stay between 95 and 100.  If you have a very consistent stroke, you could go smaller still.  But the smaller the head, the more consistency the racquet demands.

One other aspect of the racquet would the the string bed density.  Some racquets are available in 16x19 string patterns (16 mains, 19 crosses), or a denser 18x20 pattern.  The denser pattern will offer more control.

Now to the actual strings.  For tension, higher tensions give more control.  And you can go a pound or two above the tension range if you want to.  I string two lbs above the max recommended tension for my frames.  Just don't go too tight.

As for actual string choice, this will vary.  You can get a really soft string for maximum feel.  But if you use lots of spin, that string will break quickly.  You can also get a harder string that's textured to maximize spin.  These will also last longer, but they won't have the feel of a nice soft string.  This is where people start experimenting with hybrid sets.  They put a soft string at the crosses for feel, and a harder string on the mains for durability.  But I wouldn't worry about all that yet.

For the time being, I'd say just go with something like Prince syn. gut with duraflex.  These are what I use.  I feel that they give a good balace of feel and durability.  I play them pretty hard, with power and spin, and they'll last me about about 3 weeks.  To compare, my favorite string is the Prince lightning XX, a very soft string with lots of feel.  I would break that in a week and a half.

  2. lightwieght or slightly headheavy, loosely strung with a thin string. The smaller the head the better for spin.Really you could buy any racquet and adjust the string and it's tension and you will arrive at your specifications
