I don't have a US passport, just my driver's license. Can I go south to places like Accapulco and Puerto Vallarta by bus or plane with just my US driver's license for ID? If so, what's the best way? If not, what is needed for me to visit these places? Also, how much would it cost?

  1. You do not need a passport to trel to and from Mexico by LAND. You Do need a photo I.D. and a certified birth certificate...see site below to read current info.  You CANNOT travel with just your drivers license.  You may certainly travel to other cities in Mexico.   Buses are inexpensive and run frequently...and are very nice.  Bus is the best way to travel in Mexico...just go to the local bus station and ask about buses to the next place you want to go..you do not need to plan way ahead.  See article below.  Gives info on fares on that site too.  Stay in little local hotels and avoid the big resorts to save money.

  2. Nope, you will definetely need a passport. Maybe if you go by bus you won't be asked for, but if someone asks you for it and you don't have it you could get in trouble.

Ok ok yes, guy below's right, at the beginning they said they will require the passport from jan 2008, now they're saying that it will be from june 2009, I guess I just wasn't updated. You'll be fine with the driver's license.
