Hi like most kids I want some spare cash. I thought hey why not start my own buisness? I am going to sell gum with my friend. My parents are struggling income wise, and I want to help them out. If anyone has any ideas please tell me. Is gum a good idea? thanks

  1. I sold gum in school as a kid.  7th & 8th grades.  Good money in it as long as you don't get caught breaking any school rules or get robbed.  The trick is to limit the business to a certain number of sales each day so it doesn't get too distracting or bring too much attention to what you're doing.  Also, if you run out before the end of each day, you create a sense of scarcity and people will look for you early the next day.  I used to buy packs of gum (bubble yum back then) for 50 cents or mult-paks if I could afford it, then sell it 25 cents per piece.  If I could make $5 per day I was happy.  I could play Donkey Kong for hours off of that.  Ahhhh the 80s!  :-)

  2. Kids in my school sell cigarettes for 50p each lol

    dont do that!!!

But aslong as u dont get caught thenwhy not

  3. Selling is normally against school policy and it's not worth getting caught, suspended, detention, and/or whatever discipline action they take against you ... for how much profit??? What might sound like a good idea and worth the risk isn't. Now this is not to say that you can't sell or make money but keep your transactions and advertising off school property. There are alot of things you can do safely and legally to make money so don't give up. Why not find more profitable products to sell and consider services that can also make you more money using your skills and interests and working on your own time schedule??? I only wish I could go back in time to know then what I know now about business and finance. I have two suggestions for you ... first is to check out your local library for some of the many books written for teens and tweens that will educate and inspire you. You CAN get your own business running and it can be both profitable and exciting if you do what you love and love what you do. There is a group across the US that may help with your answers on what to do and how to do it. They are called Junior Achievements and while I have never been in the program, have heard GREAT things about them. Check out the link below:
