This is definately spur of the moment and have just recieved my passport-I'm a little anxious to finally travel!! My question is, I've heard you have to have your passport at least 3 monthes before you can travel to New Zealand. So, I'm a little dissapointed because I wanted to go in about a 3 weeks. Is this true? If so, is there any way around this? Thanks so much

  1. No, that's not true.

  2. Kia Ora - Greetings from New Zealand,

No that's not true. I think whoever told you this was confused with another rule.

There is a rule that you can only enter New Zealand on a passport that‘s valid for at least three months after your planned departure from New Zealand.

Make sure you have $1000 NZ (about $700 US) for each month you intend to stay (or a credit card with a good limit) and also try to organise your accomodation in advance. These are questions you may be asked when you come through customs & immigration.

Hope you enjoy your visit to our lovely country. Have a great time :-)

  3. thats not true i had my passport 5 days befor i left and i was fine

  4. I've traveled to over 80 countries on a US Passport, and I've never seen a rule like that.

As soon as your passport is issued (i.e. you receive it) it is valid, and can be used at any time until the expiration date.
