Hi I found a 6 inch snake skin...?

so yea its a six inch snake shed. i live in Rhode Island. anyway i was wonderng if thre might be a site on the web about snake skins and how to identify them. thanks for any info.

It is extremely difficult to identify snake skins because there is little pattern and no color visible on the skin. This will make it very difficult to tell apart patterned snakes, and probably impossible for anyone short of a professional to identify solid-colored snakes.

If you're really determined to identify it, here's a PDF document with a list of Rhode Island snake species, it has small pictures of each of the species but you may have to google for better pictures. If your snakeskin has a pattern you may be able to identify which species or narrow it down to a couple:
