Question:

Hi I have a 20 gallon tank that has 6 barbs - 3 tigers and 3 rosys - 2 chinese algae eaters...

i want to add my siamese fighter who is a gentle lady = and does not fight anything.....I know that the research says NO WAY!!

well I have added them and short of an initial up close peek a boo - there has been no chasing, fighting or anything...when do I know this is a safe venture? i could not handle a murder in my tank or even an attempted one...

  1. The Barbs will nip the fins of your Betta since they are not in a big enough school. They should be in schools of 6 or more of EACH species. They'll nip any long fins they can see if they're not in a big enough school. The Tigers can grow up to 3" EACH and IMO, a school of 6 should be in no less than a 30 gallon tank.

    Plus, over time, the Chinese Algae Eater will grow to about a foot long and lose its algae-eating ability and go for fish instead.

  2. actually research does not say that it says not to put males with males and to not put fish that will fit in its mouth to eat in the tank with it

    so if it meets those guidelines i say yes to go for it

    but anyways females are only territorial when they lay eggs
