Hi. I have a got a brick open fireplace and wish to render and plaster over the brick.Can i use normal render?

I need to know if i can use normal render 4-1 mix with sharp sand and a pva bond or has it got to be a firproof render?????

  1. The normal mix will do ok.


  2. If you are referring to inside the firebox, you need the special mix for firebrick.

  3. yes do not use normal

    as i assume you will put a fire in it

  5. hi paul, don't forget if you totally brick up the chimney then you must cap the top also i would advise a small vent in the brickwork then it wont cause any damp, take care up on the roof, hope i have helped , ralph england
