  1. Write articles about your website or ideas.

    Submit your website for users to review, free!

    Go to Famous Pages

    http://famouspages.info

  2. I would recommend participating in Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer. Create an XML Sitemap and upload it to the search engines. This will not only get you indexed but allow the search engines to talk back to you and tell you any errors.

  3. 7 Steps to an Effective SEO Strategy

    Here are 7 steps to an effective SEO strategy. They are based around what some of the Google® ranking factors are and how each step will impact them.

    1. Keyword research - The keywords you use for your website will determine so many ranking factors such as:

        * Title tags

        * Meta tags

        * Keyword usage in the body

        * Header tags

        * Domain name (if applicable)

        * Type of websites you link to

    These are just a few, there are more, but keyword research is the first step towards successful SEO strategy.

    2. Relevant content development - try creating 20-30 pages of original, relevant, content to what your keywords are. Search engines rank the websites based on the keywords and the websites that have relevant content to those keywords. Your content can easily make you or break you in the search engines so make sure its original, and once again, relevant to your keywords.

    3. Design your website to be "linkable" - Internal linking of your website, which is the number and importance of internal links pointing to a page, and external links from other websites pointing to your website are important to SEO. In some cases as important to your keywords. This means making your website more navigable and user friendly by linking your internal pages on your website and keeping your site design simple will make it more appealing for quality external websites to link to it. The structure of your internal linking and quality of external links play a huge role in effective SEO strategy.

    4. Sitemaps - An often overlooked aspect of effective SEO strategy which goes in line with internal site linking. Its quite a simple concept, if you have a sitemap then the spiders can access the content on all pages of the website. Take it one step further and create a Google® Sitemap and submit it to them. This will tell the spiders exactly how your website is laid out, all the pages and it will let them know how often they are updated. For more information on creating Google Sitmaps go to http://www.sitemaps.org

    5. Submit and forget (sometimes) - Submit your websites to DMOZ and other relevant directories and then forget about it. Why? DMOZ can take up to 6 months or more to make a directory listing. Its ok to check back after a while when submitting because its not an instant occurrence. This doesn't mean its not important, a listing in DMOZ has been known to boost search engine ranking exponentially. Submit your website to article directories by writing a short informative article about one of the topic of discussions on your website. It can give you great linkbacks from good external link websites, which will boost your search engine ranking. If you don't think anything about your business is interesting enough to be worth a 400 word description then what makes you think anyone else will (think its interesting).

    6. Study your Stats and make adjustments - Your website should have statistics actively tracking from day one. Make sure they are comprehensive enough to track what keywords are popular and what people are typing in the search engines to find your website. Also they need to track what websites are referring to yours and how you were able to be linked by those websites. Then make adjustments, build more content around the more popular keywords, and the more popular referring websites. This will make your content more relevant to the search engines.

    7. Keep your content fresh - Remember the search engines rank websites primarily according to content, not domain name, or how much you spend in pay per click ads, or even the number of hits you have. All of those listed above play a small role in your ranking, but content is king. A simple way to keep content fresh is to have a blog on your website. This will not only keep your visitors interested in your websites content but the search engines will see that its newer, and unique and improve your rankings because of your content.

  4. I discourage use of XML sitemaps.  The SEO community generally agrees that unless you are *unable* to get indexed naturally, you should not use them.

    First steps for you:

    1. Make sure your title tags are well written.  The goal of the title tag is to present your site well in the search engine results pages (SERPS).  Having the most important keyword in the title tag, preferably at the start, will help Google and others determine the topic of your site.

    2. Your description tag is a minor influence on search, but a major influence on whether people click on your listing.  It should be around 60 characters long and have a call-to-action within the 60 characters.

    3. Start your effort by finding another website that you could get to link to you. This starts your site out on a natural link path preferred by search engines.

    3a.  If it's not possible, you can submit your site manually and be very patient.

    4. Spend time obtaining authority links from other sites - NOT on tweaking the tags and so forth.  To get these links your site needs great content.  The secret to SEO is great content, linked to by great sites.  Most amateurs spend way way way too much time fiddling with their sites' meta tags and so forth.

    5. Add Google analytics to your site so you can monitor your traffic levels.  It's easy to add.

    6. If someone comes to you with 'tricks' - ignore them.  Don't waste your time.  Take the time necessary to add terrific content and most of the rest will take care of itself.

    7. Updating your site regularly seems to have a strong influence on Google.

    8. If your domain name is new, you will be unable to rank well for a few weeks - this is normal and SEO professionals simply plan on it.

    Start building amazing content!!!

    ...and good luck.

  5. Use social bookmarking sites like: socialmarker.com to get indexed in major search engines within hours! and this will get you lots of backlinks and exposure.
