How much is it? What happens in between with your current name? I mean do you still use your legal name until your new one is established? I know this sounds like multiple questions however they all go together. I live in Los Angeles, Thank you so much for your help.

  1. social security will be able to change it immediately with your social security card. You will be responsible to change it for every thing else. DMV, banking, credit,( which you may have to re-establish) and MD's

  2. Have you talked to the clerk of court?

  3. My friend recently changed her name back to her maiden name.  I live in Canada, so our regulations may be different.  But all she had to do was go into a Registries office and change it on her driver's license.  It cost like 20.00 or something like that.  Then she filled out a form she got off the Canadian Social Insurance website, filled it out and mailed it in.  She got a new Social Security card for $10.00.  She then took her new driver's license with the name change and changed the name on her bank accounts, etc.  It really wasn't a big deal.  Once the name is changed on your driver's license, you use that name right away.

  4. With the GOV of CA  laying off so many clerks that were doing this work it will take a long long long time. In some cases at the state level it will take 8 months to a year, Figure at least twice the time as before the layoffs. Be patient and Good luck
