  1. No -go for it!

  2. No, you can't be fined directly for using Alt. Fuels. But in cases where you are making your own Fuel at home (Ethanol, Bio-diesel, Electricity) and you don't buy gas at the pump, some states will charge you an alternative tax to make up for the tax that you are avoiding by not paying gas tax.

It's f*cked but that's the way it works. In my state, 34 cents of every gallon is tax only. That's almost $4 per tank on a small car.

Just don't register your vehicle as Alt. Fuel and they'll prolly never know. What they don't know can't hurt you.

  3. I have not heard of it being illegal and several people I know have tried it with success. Thank you for contributing your part to make our world a little cleaner!

  4. I don't think so. They have new diesel fuel that is from vegetable products.

  5. no, that would be just silly...and lots of people do it. anyone who drives a diesel can convert to veggie power.

  6. You need to pay Federal and state road tax on fuel you use in a highway vehicle.

Be sure to also check out the tax deductions and credits you get for using veggie oil.  I believe the deductions/credits are more than the road tax, including deductions/credits for conversion equipment!

If you've messed up in prior tax years, go back and amend your return with a 1040X and pay the additional taxes and late penalties.  You are much less likely to get in trouble if you come clean before they catch you.

And lobby your state and federal government to change the tax law to simplify road taxes on alternative fuels for individuals.

  7. Every where the laws are different. My experience it is illegal to drive a vehicle on the roads and the tax not be paid on the fuel.

  8. As long as it doesn't smoke.
