My decision to buy a Eurail pass depends on this since this journey apparently costs around 150 euros one way!

  1. The 10 euro supplement applies to Tourist class on the AVE trains - the one way fare for tourist class is 105.30 or 124.30 euro depending on the specific trains. The more expensive ones get there a little faster. The 158 euro price is for 1st class - the supplement with a Eurail pass for these seats is 23.50 euro. You do get a meal in 1st class in addition to a bit more comfort. Tickets cost roughly a euro more if you buy them at the station instead of on-line.

  2. Yes, you can use the Eurail pass on the AVE.  In fact, I can't think of any trains which would not accept the pass.  The basic cost 1st class is about 158euro.  I don't know what the exact reservation supplement is.  You might want to check that with the company you're buying the Eurail pass from.
