HI. I guess I am having a sticker shock. I used to travel to Amsterdam all the time and NEVER paid more than $400 /rt. Now, this has been years ago and I understand that Int'l travel costs more these days, but come on - ave. $900 for a trip to Amsterdam in the end of September? That's CRAZY!!!

(And I have spent at least three hours searching all the travel sites.)

Does anyone know a way to book a trip to Amsterdam in Sept. for around $600?? (From Boston) Many thanks in advance.

  1. The cheapest I found was at Mission Valley Travel.  They came in at $783 including taxes and fees.   The next cheapest came in at over $900.  Good Luck!

  2. Unless you have been living in solitary confinement with not access to the newscasts... then you should know that about 7 airlines have gone belly up since the first of the year... most airlines are laying off massive amounts of employees... they have taken planes out of service and the ones that are left are overbooked... They are losing millions of dollars a week on their fuel oil.

SO... just WHY do you think you are going to find a cheap flight to Europe when none exist.

  3. It might be crazy but it is a fact of life that due to the ever-increasing fuel prices that airlines are having to pass on these costs to end users - aka us as the customer

Secondly depending on which airline & currency it is working on, then you also have to factor in the fact that for Americans travelling to Europe is very expensive due to the weak dollar and strong Euro (Brits have the same problem).

Therefore $900 is normal (even cheap) nowadays for this flight to be honest.......
