cross infection and an awareness of HIV/aids, thus ensuring the environment promotes positive health & hygiene.

I know this is a biggie & we have all covered this in over training but we are applying for the WPPA quality assurance award and they want evidence if this, any ideas on how to evidence would be a great help. Thanks

  1. -Do a mini quiz....at a staff meeting give it as random quiz-then you can see where the weak areas are that need improving.

-maybe set up the room with some obvious errors (when child is not there) then ask staff to spot them...eg: make a wet patch on floor (you can put a sign next to it saying 'urine' and red food colouring on a toy etc etc...) this is more practical testing than theory.

-Have posters around the room as constant reminders....ensure regular training and reviewing of the policy as a group so everyone is familiar and up to date.

    Evidence:

-copy of the test/copy of the eval.

    -Photos of the practical test

    -Copies of the posters.

  2. a log book of things that are being done to prevent cross infection

    training certificates

research (i.e im a radiographer and we have to keep CPD files to prove that we are constantly learning and updating our knowledge or we get struck off)

  3. After training have staff take a test to see if they are processing info. The Red Cross will also do refresher courses(if you ask ahead of time) when your staff takes their CPR and first aid. I have had a Dr friend come and give a short in-service. That also helped.edit...misread your question. The training organizations would give each teacher a certificate. The teacher kept the original in a notebook of her own(each teacher had one). Then...we made copies and put them in their employee file.

  4. evidence could be in the form of a questionnaire to your staff after the training, a form they sign after they have completed their training or something specific you do in your pre-school that promotes positive health and hygiene.

could you ask any other preschools that have applied for WPPA for advice?

  5. put up some pictures in your bathrooms showing hand washing techniques, as hygeine starts in the bathroom.

have laminated posters next to all your first aid boxes explaining the importance of weraing gloves when dealing with an abraision of any type.

i find that the more you have information laying around in the right places the more aware your staff should become. hope this is of help to you
