  1. Try networking with other grads/alumni in your field, or call Al Gore- lol. Idk, but International Studies is an interesting field, I'm going to be majoring in it as well. Hopefully you'll find some work, but honestly I don't think that Y!A is the best place to begin your search.

  2. Try State jobs and county jobs

    Great benefits/ moderate pay!

  3. your not off to a very good start if you don't know where you belong. this isn't the place. try reading the rules. i wouldn't hire you.

  4. A sociology major, yikes.  Good luck.  I hope you find something.  You can always take time during this recession to go to grad or professional school.

  5. I have an MA in International Relations, and when I was looking it seems that the better jobs are in the DC area.  The only places I considered in the L.A. area were the Secret Service, and the FBI (desk jobs of course).  If you are willing to expand your search you may find something in the Department of Homeland Security in particular in the border and customs area in San Diego.

    Good luck!

PS You may want to consider getting your masters degree as it opens up more doors and opportunities.

  6. With only a major in sociology and a minor in international relations, you aren't qualified for the very few entry-level jobs in international relations in LA -- not unless you can also work in another language in addition to English and have extensive volunteering experience that's given you a good base of knowledge about a particular international issue or a particular part of the world other than the USA.

You could make a list of nonprofit organizations in LA that are focused on something international and visit the web sites of each to see if they have any entry-level jobs (receptionist, administrative assistant, etc.) available, or try to set up an informational interview where you meet but with no guarantee a job is available. Your nearest United Way should be able to help you with finding all of the nonprofits in your area somehow focused on an international issue or another part of the world.

Also talk to your university career counseling office.

  7. Try sending an application to the ACLU or to Gore's Global warming Campaign
