  3. Here are some illustrated sites that may be of help:

    http://www.milieux.com/costume/

    http://www.siue.edu/COSTUMES/history.htm...

I use these for a lot of my research into costumes.

  4. Wow, you gotta remember that the Renaissance lasted from the 14th to the 17th century!

    That's 300 years!

There really is NO standard OF Renaissance Fashion per se.

All one has to do is attend a local Renaissance Fair to see the HUGE differences in fashion over a 300 year time period.

Women's dress alone went from a long white linen under garment with a shift of sorts wore over it.........to these huge, elaborate, ornately adorned gowns. For the poorer masses that hand made A DRESS...only one...to be used for multi purpose. Neck lines were all the way up, then they were all the way down. Bosoms were laid flat, laced up, hung out, or just left to their own devices over a very short period of time.

Womens clothes went from 3 pieces to 1 piec to 5 pieces.

Same thing for men. Their pants alone started off as nothing more than draw string jammie pants, then laced up, the front, then the back, then buttoned up, then form fitting. And we're NOT even going to get into COD PIECES.

Shoes.....boots....high...low ....short shoes .... men wearing high heels ... soft leather boots much like moccasins.

What did WE get from their fashion?

Men being dressed with a more tailored look.

    Vests worn with coats.

Heels on shoes for fashion and not for purpose.

    Women's clothes being fitted.

    Intricate adornment on clothing.

    Fasteners like buttons and laces.

    Cleaner cut clothing.

The use of different material in fashion.

Layers of clothing wore together that matched or went together, not being thrown together for warmth.

    Clothes used for differnet activities.

Different designs, something new, things that not everyone else was wearing....basically fashion DESIGN itself.

The idea of actually making something A FASHION.

    Adorning jewelry to mathc clothing.

The idea of clothing that was sleeveless, off the shoulder, full sleeves, short sleeves...all meant for fashion and not for a purposeful use.

The combining of fashion from different areas.

Fashion belting of clothing for LOOK and not just to hold the pants up.

These use of pleats in clothing.

The elaborate use of wigs and hair adornment.

The richer you were the more expensive your fabrics.

Pretty much Fashion BEGAN in the Renaissance...all the good points of it and all the weird, crazy ,insane points of it.
