its been back to the local garage twice about the light, its always off when I get it back but within a day or two its back on. Yesterday the oil light came on checked the dip stick and it was not regeristering any oil!!! put about 2 &1/2 litres in for it to register. My nieghbour says this is pretty serious cause its not leaking oil so the engine must be buring it??

the car is 2 yrs 7 mths old and I'm the 2nd owner had it 2 mths. My hubby is going mad cos I wanted the car! please help and be honest if its knackered ,let me know cos its still under warranty. thanks everyone

  1. Putting 2.5 litres into a vauxhall astra is indeed worrying.

    If your warranty ends soon Take it to your dealership.

    If not your car will end soon.

  2. It could have been low on oil when you got the car, now that you know that it is ful,drive it for awhile  then check it again. If it is supper low then your motor is useing (burning ) oil,. That means the piston rings are bad , making the motor a piece of junk.If it's still under warranty you need to get it back to them , before the warranty runs off.If it is burning that much oil they need to rebuilt the engine or replace it.  The reason your check engine light keeps coming back on is that there's something  that need to to replaced and they aren't doing it , there just resetting the lights so when you pick it up it's off,but it's always going to come back on until then replace the part that is bad. (Keep your eye on that oil.)

  3. If you've put 2.5 litres of oil in, there's a good change the engine is already seriously damaged. If you're certain it's not leaking any oil, then it's burning it - this may be why your engine management light is on, the engine can't get the fuel / air mixture right due to there being oil in the combustion chambers.

    From what you've said, you've only had it two months, and on such a young car, it must still be under warranty - either take it back to where you bought it, or contact Vauxhall - it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty period, unless servicing has been neglected.

    Just checked here;

    http://vauxhall.co.uk/vx/owners/warranty...

    and bizarrely, Vauxhalls only come with a one year warranty as standard, extendible to three years at no cost - I hope this has been the case with your car!
