  1. ya pay car tax in britain, also MOT, and insurance. I dont think france pay car tax, was there last week and didnt c any tax discs on the cars.


  2. I am not sure what taxes you are refering to. If you buy a car in Britain to export it permanently to France because you live there permanently, then you should register it with French number plates. This is not cheap, you have to go to your prefecture with a certificate of conformity from the manufacturers and various other documents. You will need a 'Controle Technique' (French MOT) and you will have to have the appropriate headlights or you will not pass the controle technique. You will then get your 'carte grise' and French number plates and then you don't have to pay road taxes as there are none to pay.

    If you buy a car in Britain and take it to France because your permanent residence is in France, you should notify the DVLA in Swansea, just as you would if you moved house within the UK. Your English Insurance will only cover you for a short while then you should get French insurance. When you get French insurance they will tell you to get French number plates as soon as possible.
