I've only had 2 classes and we've done down block, inside block, outside block, and high block as well as roundhouse kick. Is there any online sites to show me again so I can practice?

  1. Do what your instructor tells you to do--500 times. the key to improvement is repetition.

By the way Annie as a second degree blackbelt and former assistant instructer you should know the correct term. The term sensei as you stated has Japanese origins and Taekwondo is Korean--sabumnin is the correct term for instructor.

  2. You have only taken two classes and it takes many, many repetition's to get the movements down pat. When you are in class again just get the teacher to go through the moves that you are having trouble with.

You will get all of them right there is no rush. Just take it slow and practise the ones that you know and seek help with the ones you do not.

  3. I've been into Tae Kwon Do for quite a few years now and one thing that helps me alot is going over the basics. Anything that is ever thrown at you, whether it be a kick, a punch, or a grab, can be blocked, countered or avoided with one of the basic moves. The best thing you can do is practice. (as corny as that sounds). Repetition is the key to teaching your body to react. In any martial arts the goal is usually to be able to do something automatically. Your muscle memory is what triggers this. By repeating what you've learned over and over again, you train your body to respond to certain outside forces. I hope wherever you are taking class, you constantly go over the basics on a daily basis. If you have an active imagination then pretend to have an opponent. This will give you a movement, or some sort of action to look for whenever you need to use what you've learned.

One thing I cannot stress enough to newcomers; KEEP YOUR HANDS UP! lol if you are in a school that tells you to drop your hands when you spar. Run. Alot of Tar Kwon Do schools love to teach you to kick but they neglect the hands. If someone comes at you with a kick and his hands are down, what are you going to do? Punch him. Can't do that if your hands are down too.

If you can buy this book: Tae Kwon Do: The Ultimate Reference Guide.

Those tips help me out immensely, even today. I hope you put them to good use.

  4. MAke sure you take notes.. make a notebook.  Also practise ... .ask someone in class if they want to practice outside of class... or go early and practise.  Pick someone a belt or two higher and ask them for practise.  Usually eveyone is really good at helping each other.

  5. strech your legs alot. taekwondo is a kicking martial art so strech your legs alot go running and skipping also a good site to show you the blocks and moves would be youtube.

  6. Go to youtube and look up taekwondo revolution of kicking.

  7. First, Leonard...TKD is a KOREAN martial art, so her instructor IS NOT a "sensei."

Gah....ignorant ppl who think that they know what they're talking about are annoying.

Back to the question...I think that you're at such an early stage of training, that I wouldn't worry so much about it.  You've learned very little so far...simply go home and try to replicate what you've already learned.  Simply pay close attention to your instructor during class and imitate him or her at home.  You could possibly try to use some videos or pictures online to help you, BUT, depending on the style of TKD that you are studying, you might just end up getting confused.  You might end up finding a website that does a different style, and unknowingly learn incorrect form/technique.  My old TKD school used to have videos that we would give the white belts where the instructor goes over the basic techniques.  Perhaps your instructor has something similar, or can recommend a website to you.  I would simply ask your instructor about it.

  8. practice your forms every day four times a day.

  9. try to search videos on youtube as far as videos go.......but the best advice i could give you for tkd is always stretch

  10. yay!!! someone finally mentioned it!!!! i could be able to help u a lot!!! tats cuz im a black belt!!!!nd when i was a white belt it was very difficult for me but now i've gotten the hang of it!!!!

u should really work on it ummmm

  11. Your instructor,(sensei), should be doing that.  If you take lessons from more than one instructor, you will not be learning correctly.
