  1. whisper sweet nothings in its ear and rub it gently - i find that works, especially with soft music in the background.

  2. Hi Dave,

Don't listen to some of these kooks.  Turning can be kinda tricky.  There are lots of different ways to turn, and different kinds of turns you can do on a surfboard.

It sounds like you just want to ride the wave at an angle, go down the line, instead of heading straight into the beach.

To do this, some people like to take off at an angle.  When you're catching the wave, instead of paddling straight into the beach, angle your board slightly and point it in the direction that it is breaking.  This will set you up heading in the right direction.

Other people like to make that drop and then do a big bottom turn.  Catch the wave, stand up as soon as you can (ideally right before you drop down the face of the wave).  Make sure your feet are not close together, you want a nice wide stance.  Also, bend your knees.  So, you've caught the wave, stood up, and made the drop.  When you get to the bottom of the wave, lean into it, hard.  Depending on which way the wave is breaking, you'll want to lean on your heal-side or toe-side.  Keeping your knees bent, and a nice low, wide stance will help you keep your balance.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions.  I can try to explain myself more if you need it.  Good luck.

And remember, you're out there to have fun!

  3. Take another lesson

  4. Talk to it nicely be friendly then suddenly start screaming and shouting at it and threaten it with violece. That'll do the trick

  5. SO YOU CAME FROM THE ORIENT.......GO BACK... YOU SMELL LIKE FISH YOU WILL ENCOUNTER A GREAT WHITE BEWARE THEY CAN SENSE AN IDIOT POSER

  6. have your back foot over the fins, when you want to turn lean slightly onto the back foot but just for a moment ready to shift weight back to the front foot. If you're on a longer board, you may have to walk the board a bit.
