Hi everyone...i was just wondering why did i receive conditional residency status?

We've been married for more than 2 years... should i be receiving 10 yr green card instead (IR1)? please help...thank you...

  1. when you applied you were married for more than two years? if not that is why.or maybe the USCIS officer decided that you didnt show enough proof and gave you a conditional one.dont worry, all you have to do is go down 90 days before the 2 years and apply to remove them.


  2. You get a conditional green card first.  After two years, you can petition for removal of the conditions and if approved, get a permanent green card (legal permanent residence).

  3. If you filed *before* your two-year wedding anniversary then you would have received a conditional resident green card.

    Most people who are close to that two-year mark generally wait until it as passed for this very reason.
