  1. It depends on where the duplicate files are located.  For example, your photos.  If the duplicates are in a separate folder and not mixed in with the originals, you can open the folder and click Ctrl+A (hold down the Ctrl key and then click the letter A.) This is the command to select all photos.  The photos will become highlighted and then you can click your delete (or Del) key.  The photos will go into your recycle bin. Or you can RIGHT-click on the folder icon and select the delete option that appears. This will delete the entire folder and all contents.

If the duplicate photos are mixed in among the original photos you won't be able to delete the entire folder without deleting your originals, too. So you'll have to open the folder and individually select the photos to delete. If all of the duplicate photos are neatly lined up one right after the other, you can left click on the first photo to highlight it. Now hold down your shift key, move your cursor to the last photo you want to delete, then left click on the photo.  All of the photos in between the first and last photos you selected will also become highlighted and will be deleted when you click the delete button.

If the duplicates are randomly scattered amongst the original photos you can left click on the first photo you want to delete.  Now hold down the Ctrl key and keep holding it down. Move your cursor to the next photo you want to delete and while still holding down the Ctrl key, left click the photo. It will become highlighted.  Still holding down the Ctrl key keep moving your cursor to each photo you want to select for deletion.  Left click and move on to the next photo. Keep holding down the Ctrl key until all duplicate photos have been selected. Click on delete.

The above shortcuts work well if the duplicates are all in one place.  But if they're randomly scattered around your hard drive it will be a challenge to find them all.  You could use the built in search feature (click start > search > pictures, music or video) and wade through all that it finds, or you could use a free software program like this,
