I agree with the "no s*x before marriage" comment, having him make a commitment to you makes you sure that he wants you for you and not for s*x. This doesn't have to be marriage it could just be waiting a while, while you're together.

if you mean that he is a friend and you are not sure whether he loves you and wants to be with you. Then there is no other way than just to ask him. Otherwise you will never be sure.
