In Juneau, we went on the white pass railroad excursion and it was spectacular, very scenic. That was my favorite excursion. In Ketchikan, it rains a lot, so be prepared for that. I have been on the Golden 2 times now and loved it. Beautiful ship. be prepared to be pampered.

I'm from Ketchikan!  What the other girl said, it rains a LOT!!! So be prepared.  I used to work in a tourist shop and the tourists used to tell me that Ketchikan had the best and cheapest tourist shopping in the southeast.  

Some fun and interesting sightseeing adventures are:  1) Rainforest Canopy & Zipline Expedition  2) Misty Fjords National Monument by boat or floatplane (it's really beautiful!)  3) Saxman totem village (Ketchikan has the world's largest totem collection).  4) Or if you're into hiking you can take a hike up Deer Mountain.

There are tons of other things to do and there's a visitor's bureau right on the docks where you can get all the info you need.

Some of my favorite places to eat are 1) the fish 'n chips stand right down on the docks (sooo good)  2) for sandwiches, panini's and ice cream try Polar Treats  3) for a nice fancy meal Cape Fox is the best!  (you can take a tram ride up and get a really great view of the town)  4) The Crab Cracker has really good clam chowder.

Dockside Trading and the Mining Company are both great places to buy affordable souvenirs.
