  1. ummm well close the inside doors and give the bat an exit by opening an outside door (or window),  if the bat disappears before you do that, it probably landed somewhere it can hang –curtains, furniture, plants, etc.  try to capture it using a net (if you have one).  if you dont and the bat is hanging on a curtain or other vertical place, put a jar or bucket over it ((Carefully!!!)) and work a piece of hardboard or stiff paper between the opening and the surface of the wall, which traps the bat inside ,and let it free outdoors. and shut your windows quickly!!!

P.S- don't touch it with your bare hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. they're protected, sorry.

call your local wildlife trust for advice

    xx

  3. Also, bats are mammals not rodents.

  4. They are a protected species and you need a locence to even approach them. Call your local council, they can put you in touch with a licenced bat handler. Incidentally, they wont do any harm, just smell!

  5. They are protected so seek advice before doing anything........

  6. I'm assuming they've gotten in the attic and we had that problem ourselves when we first purchased our farmhouse.  It's 120 years old and sat empty for a couple of years, so it was dark, quiet and prime colonization property for bats.

I'm not talking a couple, either... it was like a National Geographic special.  They covered the rafters!  I was freaking out.

I contacted a local exterminator to find out how and what they do to remove bats.  They are protected under state law and you cannot hurt, harass or injure them, even if you're trying to get them out of your house.  Exterminators use exclusion netting (bats fly out, can't get back in), and then there's the lengthy process of sealing any openings in the eaves (bats can fit through a 1/4" opening!) and clean up of droppings, which should be done by a professional as they can really make you and your family ill.

Bad news is, this costs around $1,000 or more, because of the rabies and health risk for whoever is removing them.  More bad news is that we're in the middle of their breeding season, and NO ONE can remove a colony because they will strand the still flightless young.  No one can remove them until around the end of August.

I did not have $1,000 and tried option B... I waited until after breeding season (end of August) and kept the lights on in the attic for several days.  On a warm, clear night when the entire colony was flying, I went into the attic with foam insulation sealant and sealed it up thoroughly.  I also have friends with haz mat gear that helped with cleanup.  Haven't had a bat in since, but they did relocate to the exterior eaves of the house.

Bats are great - they keep the mosquitoes down and are very beneficial mammals.  They're just not great in your home.

  7. First of all this question doesn't belong here

  8. hi mate. I'm sure when you say get rid of them you didnt mean with a big can of poison? they are protected. can you contact the RSPCA if you dont have a wildlife refuge nearby. You really should feel quite honored, you dont see them around that much nowadays. people didnt want them in the roofspace and just killed them, so now they tend to stay in barns and such. Do they really bother you, because if they aren't a nuisance you could boast about your bats in the belfry!!

  9. Ouch, you have a problem....

The thing is, you can't get rid of them. They are a protected species and it is illegal to move them. You should call your animal and wildlife trust, or whatever assosciation around your area takes care of wildlife.

Don't disturb them, you will be in a LOT of trouble with the law.

  10. bats are lovely. theyre not vermin, they dont damage anything  and they wont hurt you.  please dont try to get rid of them .

  11. call a humain office and ask if you can get a pillowcase and release it outside

  12. kill it!! lmao
