  1. From Brentford to Guildford, there are three fare options:

Route: Virginia Water. Weekly £49.50. Monthly £190.10

Route: Not London. Weekly £56.30. Monthly £216.20

Route: London. Weekly £68.50. Monthly £263.10.

This information was obtained from http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/sts

Journey time via Virginia Water is about 1 hour 30 minutes. Journey time via Clapham Junction is about 1 hour 15 minutes.

  2. Your postcode is fairly close to where I live... and your train route will be approximately the same as what I've been doing for the last year (when travelling by train).

Go to Brentford Station and take an Eastbound train for Waterloo - getting off at Clapham Junction. Then at Clapham, you can take 2 or 3 different trains that go to Guildford. One is quite slow and stops at every station - try avoiding that one as it takes an hour (DOUBLE what it takes the other two). The other 2 fast-trains take 30 mins; one passes through Guildford, but stops at Woking so you can change there; the other fast train stops at Guildford.

Once in Guildford, you come up the stairs and turn left (you can turn right, but left is closer to uni). Go to the end till you come to the exit.  You can either cross the street and get a bus from there that has about 5 stops within the campus grounds where you can get off. Or you can walk. It's about 10 minutes walking distance from the station to the university's main buildings.

I'm guessing it's a 15-20 minute journey for you to Brentford station. Then another hour to Guildford (provided you don't have to wait too long for the trains). And then 5-10 minutes from Guildford station to Uni... so about an hour and a half all in all.

Mine was about the same, and although it takes about an hour drive from uni to home (with light traffic) I decided to live on campus! It's much easier. You save much more time, and get a lot more involved. You might want to do that!

Feel free to email me for further info! :) I'm finishing off my master's degree this year
