  1. 5.1 or 7.1 channels are out/input signals... so u need to have a TV set or Player which can give this out put....u cannot change it.

Better buy a DVD player which gives 5.1 or 7.1 out put and attach it to ur TV.    These days all the CD and DVD players give 5.1 or 7.1 out put.

  2. You say in the additional details that you do not have 6 speakers? You need at least 2 fronts, 2 surrounds, 1 center and 1 sub which is 6 speakers for a 5.1 setup and 2 extra rear speakers for 7.1 plus a home theater receiver. If you are using a blu-ray or hd dvd player then connect the HDMI cable to the receiver if that kind of connection is possible, the next best connection is the analog 6 channel outputs. Other than using HDMI the 6ch analog output is the only other way to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD sound because using an optical or coax will only give you the regular Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks.

  3. you need a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. the numbers mean you 5 speakers and 1 sub hence 5.1. and 7.1 is the same. you can buy cheep systems for around £40 but if you really want a nice system you need about £200-£500 try here for details http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chris.burma...

you can try ebay for the systems

  4. You would need to buy a 5.1 or 7.1 surround receiver and run either a digital coax or digital optical cable from each of your devices, cable/satellite, DVD player, gaming device, etc. Any source that has surround capabilities would need to run through the receiver. 5.1 is fine for most applications, it has 1 center speaker, 1 sub-woofer and 4 satellite speakers. 5 regular speakers plus 1 sub-woofer = 5.1.
