I am a recent graduate of mechanical engineer, my work does not require me to use modeling software, but I do not want to forget the skills I learned, and I also enjoy modeling. People are telling me the liscence costs in 7000$+. Is that the same for non-commerical purposes too? I am not going to use it to market or sell products, just personal use.

  1. You can get a student version from a university bookstore. I think it costs like $100. You'd have to find a university that teaches their modeling with Solidworks and not Pro-E or Auto CAD.

  2. You can get the basic package for 4grand, if you can somehow manage it, you can get a student version for  much cheaper but it expires.

I know what you mean by forgetting your skills, I am happy I talked my new job into purchasing solidworks, and they love it.

  3. Go to http://mkt.solidworks.com/emarketing_enu...

and get a quote. I don't know what types of discounts they offer, but maybe they'll have one you qualify for.

    Good luck.
