  1. I would recommend you give them time to run around and play because then they'll get bored and are going to get hyper. Children need to lose energy because then you're going to have to deal with many hyper children who won't listen to you. Playing sports with them might be fun and healthy. I have been working at a preschool for 2 yrs already and children are always running around and won't listen and once we take them outside so they can play and run they are more calm afterward. So i suggest you that.

  2. Check with your state's licensing regulations... will you need to be licensed for this?  It depends on how many hours and days the children are in attendance.

I say go for it!  Remember there is more than "coloring".  Provide blank paper or theme related border paper with big open spaces.  Use fat crayons, use skinny crayons, use home made flat crayons, do crayon rubbings, use markers, chalk etc.  Provide imagination paper instead of coloring sheets.

Why not consider doing this through the school year?  Become licensed for child care.  You don't need to accept every family that comes along.  You can be choosy...especially if you are doing this as an "extra"...because you love to instead of needing for income.  You have every right to just do a "preschool" age childcare/preschool program.

Consider adding in sensory... these young children definately get many teaching moments with sensory activities and you can probably bet they won't get this type of exploration at home.

To add interest for the children and make planning easier on yourself...you may wish to do a theme each week.

    Good luck!

  3. SURE!

  4. I would not include TV or video time as they can do that at home.  Your added comments don't show when I'm replying, so I can't remember if you included outdoor play time? I'd be sure to include some activities outdoors for summer.

Are there any interesting places near you where you could walk safely with your group? Field trips are always a plus.

Try thinking of a topic per week that you know kids are interested in. I'm sure your son could suggest some! Then tie in the academic activities to the topic. For example, let's say your son would like to learn about cars. You could read books about cars, talk about the parts of cars, measure toy cars, do experiments to see how far a car can roll, measure a real car, etc. Rather than coloring, have them draw - try to do open-ended art activities.

$50 per what? Most preschools that are only 3 days/9 hrs per week charge about $100/month around here.

You might check with child care licensing in your state to be sure what you're doing is legal. It might come under day care requirements. You might also be limited to how many children you can have, even if you don't have to have a license.

What about insurance? You need to be sure you are covered if children are injured while in your care. (Your regular homeowner's may not cover it since you are doing this as a business/getting paid.)

  5. just make it fun, if they dont have fun they wont want to learn. when they are haveing fun they remember more.
