  1. if you are 18 then your parents are not allowed to take your passport and if they dont give yours back then you can get them arrested

  2. You're 18- an ADULT! it's your choice, unless they were paying for it then that sucks! For the passport- just order a new one. You'll get it before your trip.

  3. It sounds to me as though you have a choice.  You can either try to work things out with your parents and come to some sort of compromise.

Or, you can insist that you are an adult and able to make your own decisions about your life.  The only problem with that is, you may be cutting ties with your parents forever.  Yes, you could probably get your passport reissued by saying you lost it.

Ask yourself this.  Why don't your parents want you to go to Japan.  Is it because it would be in the middle of your first semester of college?  Is there some sort of compromise you can make, like going over winter break or spring break instead.  And if there is no compromise, is it worth throwing your parents out of your life completely and standing on your own.

  4. You can prosecute them for theft of property, so that they will arrested and go in jail and then you can go holidays without having any concerns.

But Japan it too far i think, maybe you should prefer something more nearby?
