  1. ok. realize that canada is not america. its nothing like it - just so you wont be disappointed when you get there. that happened to friends of mine. and you dont need to speak other languages to live in canada...everyone speaks english. and mate, dont sound so cocky. you make us aussies look bad.

  2. Vancouver might be interesting for you, and probably more familiar in terms of cultural influences (plus, closer to you, and shares the same ocean).

Toronto is big, yes, but I've only been there twice so, can't offer you much advice on that one...

I've lived in Montreal, and loved it! I am bilingual, but you can get by easily in Montreal even if you only speak English. The problem is, you are still in the province of Quebec, which is officially only French, so, if you try going into other parts of the province, you will hit some communities where the majority of people speak French.

If you want a slightly quieter city (but yes, still good bars and stuff), you can go WAY on the other side of Canada, on the East coast, and go to Halifax. English-speaking, a lot of cultural diversity, and right on the Atlantic. It's been known to have trouble with crime though...

Otherwise, if you don't mind a smaller city, but a VERY fun one, go to St. John's, Newfoundland. Great people! And a famous street, with the highest concentration of bars in one place, in the whole of Canada (George Street)...so, you'll have a lot of choices there.
