  1. I've done this route more times than I can count! (from Amsterdam to the UK and back)

If you are driving from Calais to Amsterdam, it's a really easy drive and little chance of getting lost.

A good site for a routeplanner is either the AA site or Viamichelin which is my personal preference.  It gives (of course) maps and a route to get then, but also gives you an idea of the time it takes (of course not allowing for bad weather or traffic jams) and also costs as well

Personal experience - it's under 4 hours without heavy traffic ( taking into account stops for petrol/toilet break etc).

    According to Viamichelin http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin...

It's 3hrs 43mins, 370km (230 miles) depending on of course where in Amsterdam exactly and about €33.60 which is about 26.43 quid

Personally I would definately say drive from Calais rather than do the Harwich-Hoek van Holland route.  The ferry on this route is no longer the fast craft (they stopped it end of last year due to fuel costs) and now takes a long time, and you still get charged an arm and a leg!

So it's quicker and cheaper to go Dover-Calais (as long as you don't mind the extra drive which is actually easy enough anyway)  Just head - Dunkerk, Brugge, Antwerp, Breda, Utrecht, Amsterdam and you can't go wrong

    Good luck

  2. The travel distance from Calais to Amsterdam amounts to 225 miles, almost completely on motorways. The travel time, without trafic jams, will amount to about 3 hours 30 Minutes bases on a average speed of 65mph. Motorway speed limits for Belgium and the Netherlands are 75mph. In France you may drive up to 80mph, reduced to 68mph on wet roads due to rain.

  3. From ViaMichelin

Distance 370km which 351km on motorways

Time 03h43 which 03h16 on motorways

I'm not sure what part of the UK you are coming from, but the Harwich-Hoek Van Holland ferry takes longer but requires less driving  [79km instead of 370km]
