  1. I have a friend that had horrible shin splints when he started running too, but lucky enough, somebody told him to go out and get a pair of running shoes.  He went and picked up the cheapest pair he could find, and guess what, his shin splits disappeared.  Weird how just buying a cheap pair of actual running shoes can make the difference.  I'm happy to hear that you have already realized that and have already made the decision for yourself to go get some running shoes.  Awesome!

To find a good pair of running shoes, and if you are serious about keeping up with the running thing, go to a specialty shoe store to find your shoes.  When you go, keep these steps in mind when choosing a shoe (and having the store help you choose the best running shoe).

    1) Find what type of foot/stride you have

    2) Find what kind of shoes work with your foot/stride

    3) Try the shoes on and run with them AT the store

    4) Decide which of the shoes that fit and are comfortable fit into your style and price range

To help the running shoe store out with 1), bring an old pair of running shoes in. They can look at the wear pattern to have a hint at what kind of foot structure and stride you have. Then they likely will study your foot and gait to complete your analysis for part 1). You will likely then know if you are neutral, or if your foot rolls inside or outside.

For number 2), you can do the research online at any running shoe company website to get the shoes that match the result from number 1) for finding a neutral shoe, support, guidance, or control (see the Brooks running website for how they break their shoes into these categories). What the results in 1) tell the shoe store owner is where your arch is, and what kind of support you need to control what your foot does. This will tell them where they should look for more foam cushioning (outside, inside, forefoot, heel). It also helps determine how stiff you need the shoe.  This will eliminate your selection of shoes down to likely < 10.

On to 3), try the shoes on. Run with them. Wiggle your toes. Are they comfortable. This is all about you, the shoe store owner can only tell you so much, you need to convince yourself the shoe fits well. You should be able to eliminate a bunch of shoes just by running with them a bit, as things like the width of your toes (toe box) and the width of your heel come into play.

Then, use your style and price range help you with 4).

Hopefully that will help out. I don't have enough time to give you everything I know, but a website that has been very helpful to me is http://runningshoesexpert.com. It goes through the process of finding the best running shoe by having a shoe store owner give out his secrets. Believe me, there are quite a few more to help you out.

  2. asics hands down

  3. build up your shin muscles by walking on your heels with your toes pointed to the sky. I know it sounds like doh doh stuff but what it does is builds the muscle in your shins. It will definitely cure shin splints. I also agree assics are the best runners I wore

  4. i always went with adidas or nike

they just fit my foot the best

but if you are not looking for spikes then i would say nike

for the shin splits try iceing them at night and rotating your foot off of the ground

    this works for me

    hope i was of help!

  5. You need to go to a reputable running shoe store. Take your old shoes and they can look at the wear on your tread. They can also look at your feet and pick a shoe desiged for your type of foot. Don't take advice from people on here because they don't know what your feet are like.

  6. Asics Running. I love them. As for the shin splints, ice every hour.

  7. asics are really good

    i have em

  8. I am a Nike girl...but not a runner...so that probably doesn't help you.  As for shin splints...ballerina's apparently get them all the time....to stretch you shins...with one foot at a time....stand kind of on your toes but with them bent under your foot a little...this stretches the front of your leg and helps with shin splints.

  9. I've always liked adidas running shoes.  As for the shin splints I learned back in my track days to walk spend some time walking backwards on your heels.

  10. new balance is designed for running with the corrective souls and they keep u from getting planters faceietus....besides that...they are definately comfy

  11. Everyones feet are different, so shoes that are comfy on other people might not be the best fit for you.

Your best bet is to go to a specialty running shoe store where the salespeople will look at your foot and how you run to determine the best shoe for you.

    Good luck! :)

  12. i was say either nike shox or nike relaxed because ive heard there both really comfy :)

  13. i would recommend asics

but highly warn you from anything like nike shox or of tht sort

they are the most likey to give you shin splints
