i would like to know about member groups; how i can join one and if its compulsory to join a group. also...if i get to learn afrikaans through this group. thankyou!!

It's not compulsory to join a Group, but you can join one if you want to.

To join a Group, start on the Yahoo Groups home page ( http://groups.yahoo.com/ ).  If you're not signed in but you do have a Yahoo ID, then click the Sign In link at the top-middle of the page.  If you don't have a Yahoo ID yet, then click the (small) Sign Up link just below the Sign In link.  Then follow the directions on the resulting page.

Once you have a Yahoo ID and are signed in to the Yahoo Groups home page, then type a hobby or other interest you have (Afrikaans is a good example) into the Find A Yahoo Group box at the top-middle of the page.  Then click the Search button just to the right of this box.  Then look over the search results until you find one you want to join.  When you do find one you want to join, click on its name to go to that Group's home page.  Then click the Join This Group button on the right-hand side of the page.  Then follow the directions on the resulting page to choose your settings for this Group.  Don't forget to click the Join button (near the lower-right-hand corner) when you're done.
