  1. SD TV doesn't look good on an HDTV.

Specifically, the picture will look poorer than on a comparably sized analog TV.

A 40" widescreen TV will have an SD picture that is approximately the same size as on a 32" standard TV. So, if you're used to watching a smaller TV, you will see a poorer picture for two reasons, because the picture is "spread" over a wider area, and because of the degradation introduced by the TV's adding a large number of pixels to convert the signal from 480 to 720 or 1080.

In addition, the Visio is lower rated than top tier sets for it's ability to display SD signals.

In order to get a decent looking picture, you'll have to sit back about ten feet or more.

If you want a picture that looks anything like the HD displays in the stores, you'll need HD service or an antenna.

  2. The picture will be just fine. You just have to choose the right settings on your HD TV. If you are not sure, ask the FIOS Tech to help you. I have installed many standard STB's (set top boxes) onto HD TVs and the pic is fine. The only draw back is, that you will not be able to get the HD programming/channels. You will get the digital channels.
