  1. upon further research..

it seems to be a diploma that will be accepted by soem employers/colleges as an official high school diploma-and others will reject the applicant because there were modifications-

to me-it's still discrimination-If a student meets teh requirements of the IEp-if should be a standard diploma-

that is why there are additional things such as transcriptis/application essays/intervies/SATs to determine if an applicant is capable-

Go ahead and contact a few colleges you are interested in-and ask if they accept applicants with a modified diploma-

each college should have an office for students with disabilities you can talk to.

with technology-it may be possible to become a lawyer-but take it one step at a time-

you may be able to work in a related field-such as an investigator with the EEOC-investigating discrimination cases against people with disabilities--

maybe start as a paralegal if you are able to accommodate your disability

  2. I am an SDP Instructor mild/moderate in California. You will receive a diploma but in your record there will be an asterisk mentioning you have received modifications to the general education curriculum. In another words you've received special privileges and certain schools won't accept your diploma as being legitimate. But, taking into consideration that a law student needs to have a substantially high reading level, it's not realistic that you have the necessary capability of succeeding in law. I realize this may seem cruel but I think if you listen to others who tell you you can do anything if you put your mind to it, are really misguiding you. Most people who have straight A's and good vocabularies flunk out of law school and can never pass the bar exam. Did you know how difficult the bar exam is, and your not going to be given graphic organizers or have the test read out loud, or given any  type of accommodations. Be realistic with what you want to do. Find out what your scores are on the KTEA II or Wood c**k Johnson and maybe consider a career as a paralegal. Good Luck!

  3. This isn't meant to be hurtful, but perhaps you need to be realistic and accept your limitations.  You may not be able to be a lawyer, but a para legal instead. Your high school counselor will be able to guide you in the right direction.  Good luck to you.
