I've been there in Lima in June and also didn't speak Spanish...I can say just that in tourist places like downtown, Miraflores you can find someone who speak English for sure, in some restaurants they have menue in English and speak English. As for my own experience I can say that even without any knowledge of Spanish you can survive there, but I advise you to learn some general phrases in Spanish. People in Peru and in Lima particular are very friendly and hospitable, they are always ready to help, but at the same time it is good when you try to spek with native in their language, no matter fluently or not, just try...you will see people will be always ready to help. Good luck and spend good time in this nice place.

The only people that don't speak anything other than English are Americans. You will be fine.

Peru is a Spanish spaking country but you will find that many people speak English, especially in tourist-visited areas.

However, I recommend you to try to learn some Spanish words while you are there ...it will be fun and will expand you horizons.

Hello, don't worry Peruvians are the most friendly people and will not care if you don't speak Spanish. Of course it helps if you know a bit. I think in Miraflores, businesses have bilingual personnel. .In the Andes, you will find other indigenous communities where Quechua is the first language and Spanish the second. In the rainforest, you will find other languages but the main one is Spanish across the country.

If you go to Cuzco (Machupichu) you will have no problem whatsover as lots of people there speak english but hey isn't this a good opportunity to learn?

You know what is great? A translator from Franklin. Go to their website and buy one that speaks. My friends find them very helpful.

Most tourist places have English-speaking folk.

The hotels, good restaurants, stores have folks that speak a little bit of English. You can get along with some gestures and they will get the idea. They are pretty smart people.

In the cities you will find people that speak English but in the country side that likely hood drops.  If you stick to to the tourist spots you will find enough english spoken to get by.

If you're traveling to less touristy parts, it may be a bit harder to find English speaking people (or Spanish, as there are still some indigenous communities where they basically speak quechua, for example) but you'll manage, you'll see.

peruvians are more friendly towards tourists, most people don't speak english unless you go to touristy areas...

you should be able to get by cause like i said, they like tourists...they like americans, english speaking people

you may not understand them but you should have fun...

For sure everybody speak English in Lima adults, kids and everybody the English language is part of their education and is in force since 1967.

There is a huge DEA base in the jungle and hundreds of American families live in the city of Lima.

The American embassy more than 2000 American citizen working there, included the US-AID and for sure rounded with 300 employees more families, plus the potato institute huge American organization.

Well my friend we are not talking about Beijing,  or Bangkok when u get there nobody nobody speak English included in the hotel.

Dont worry a lot a lot of people speak English in the city of Lima.

And for sure if u travel around the world u will get surprise that Lima is a huge modern city.

LOL   You will be fine...I went to Peru thinking the same thing. Even though my husband spoke spanish I think I could of gotten by....depending on where we were....I am not sure where exactly you are visiting in Peru, but I can tell you that in Miraflores there are alot of english speaking people. Also, in Barranco and in Paracas....Same with Asia....If you need to hail a taxi or bargaining at a market, you should definatly speak some spanish....Study up on the food, so you know what to order, Lomo Saltado is great, you cant go wrong with pollos ala brasa, and if you like seafood you must have some by the beach or in paracas on the national park tour.....Hope all this helps!!!! and have fun!!!!
