  1. If they are good winter weatherbeetas then sometimes 1.

But you could have a nice sturdy one and then a walm one under the other 1.

but generally u need to of each just incase ur horse rips it.

  2. In summer I use one good paddock rug (something light) and my summer shade, non rip light rug. So on the cool days and nights they where a paddock rug and the rest of the time their summer coats are protected from the sun - because we show.

In the autumn I use a heavier winter rug (disappointed with my latest weatherbeeta - the straps have broken, leg straps and surcingle straps). Then just before winter comes I use an under rug as well.

In the Spring as the temperature permits I undress my neds.

I haven't used canvas rugs in a couple of years, but I certainly see them as more forgiving if they are left on the the horse gets a little warm. So while I love my weatherbeetas etc they are time consuming changing them along with the rain clouds.

    Happy riding.

  3. this is a good website for all the different types of horse rugs.

  4. No offense but horses dont even need rugs.. I would say weatherbeeta is the best rug you can get.  I dont know all my rugs are weatherbeeta.. Well beens hes a TB I would say put a light weight on him. I know TBs tend to be more suceptiable to cold. This is really your choice and if you think he looks cold bring him in and put him in a stall.. (if their is a stall avaible to him)

  5. ok so i live near perisher (freezing) my guys have a polar fleece combo under rug and a wetherbeeta 600 denier combo and that's all..even in snow they are really warm and they have no winter hair growth at all..so great for showing

  6. i have a thoroughbred and all she has is one canvas and she is fine though she is in a paddock. if the horse is in a stable or yard then all it needs is a denier that is water proof with a back up canvas if it is Reilly cold, or a woollen and a canvas they are able to cope with the cold better than people think they can as they have the Arabian horse as the father of there breed.
