  1. Don't waste money on an expensive racket.

When you're beginning, it's not the racquet that's important.

It's things like proper form, grip, strokes, and footwork.

As your game improves, you will most definitely want to upgrade your gear. Often times it's a bit psychological.

I know pretty good club players who play with inexpensive rackets from Target, K-Mart or Costco.

  2. you shold buy an agassi head or a wilson but you should go to your local sport store and see which one you like. Determine it by the feel and length.

  3. Any racket will work. Just like guitar, when you don't know how to play, you don't need a super expensive one but don't get a super cheap one either. I would go for a Wilson racket, no good reason, just a personal preference, they tend to be good and relatively cheap. As a beginner, your racket can be about $50 (look for one on sale for $50). The wilson website is currently down.. (wilson.com)

When you buy a racket, do talk to a salesperson. The racket must match the size of your hand. That is, the handles of rackets come in different sizes, and you want to make sure your hand wraps around the handle just right. This is something that the salesperson should be able to help you with. You don't have to worry about strings, unless the racket is being sold as a frame only (then you would have to buy strings and pay them to string it).

When you buy balls, they also come in different 'shapes' depending on how bouncy they are. Again, the salesperson should be able to recommend a good brand for you. I use Dunlop.

  4. you should buy something affordable and usable.

go to your local sports store first and see what kinds they have.

its hard to say what kind is good if youve never played so maybe an over sized if youre a guy..i would say. maybe talk to a coach lol cuz i dont want to steer you into investing your money wrongly.

  5. hey man.. im almost 13 too.. so you should probably go to a tennis store if there is one near you. If there isn't, try a sports store. Ask for some assistance, and they will give you some help with finding one for your strength and size..

  6. buy a cheap one on ebay

  7. Ask in your local sports shop where they sell this kind of stuff, they will advise you whats best for a first timer...
