  1. yes you would be able to,

not necessarily safe, but you would be able to,

filling bankruptcy will leave a black mark on your record, for seven years that means around seven years of no credit cards. sometimes filling for bankruptcy is the best thing to do, It might leave you with more money. But if your Filling for bankruptcy in the first place then you shouldn't have enough money to buy an apartment, I think what you should do is consult a lawyer who can help you farther in the process and seek out good deals.

    Good luck!

  2. Yes you can, although whoever you would be renting from would most likely ask you for someone else to co-sign, since when you file bankrupcy a BIG spot stays on your credit for 10 years! (thats what happend to my mom), now the laws have changed, but still, you need to repair that credit, and guess what...its not easy to do, if you decide to do it, my advice is to be really careful who you do it with since theres lots of people who do that, take your money and scam you.

And if you want to rent an appartment, i recomend you get someones signature on that contract, or you might get lucky and have no need for that!

    good luck!

  3. No your credit will be shot for 7 years

  4. I just had a client go through this same situation. She had filed and surrendered her home in the bankruptcy and was looking at apartments. She found one she liked and the apartment manager told her she could not rent one until she received her discharge. She called me to see when she would be getting that and I told her it would be a couple of months. So she called the apartment manager and the manager said if I could write a letter stating she would be receiving her discharge in approximately 2-3 months, that she would allow her to rent the apartment. I think it really depends on the place, but you might run into a little trouble. I recommend that you get a new place before you file.

  5. I have a friend who filed for Bankruptcy a few years ago, and she was able to rent an apartment, but they just asked her for a big security deposit on it. A couple of years later she also got a new car, I'm not sure if it was under her name, but I believe it was.

  6. Yes,  You will be able to rent, It will only affect your ability to buy an apartment.

I have been a  landlord for 15 years and that question is not on the application.  I only ask for total income.   Besides I would rather rent to someone who has filed then someone who hasn't .   Once you file, all your other debt goes away and it will be easier for you to pay your rent when your not paying on the credit cards.

If you are currently renting, your landlord will not know.   Residential Rental Leases are not included in the bankruptcy only your debt. You will still be obligated to pay your rent after the bankruptcy.

  7. you can get a apartment its harder for 7 years
